It's a very painful connection here - and someone is waiting for me, so I'll keep this brief. I'm making notes in a diary (Thank you Martin & Jane) and will update properly at some point in the future.
Journey to Gangtok is 120 km and takes "about" 4 hours... the roads have been partly washed away during the monsoon which makes it all pretty exciting. The monsoon is all but finished now.
Gangtok is about 15 degrees cooler than Kolkata, much slower, and much less crowded- feels like a whole different world.
I'm staying with a teacher for a few days, may arrange something else next week. She mainly speaks Nepali and Hindi so we're having some fun working things out :-)
